Branding 101

The year was 1999 and I had embarked upon my Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design, at Melbourne's RMIT University. My lecturer at the time was a man named Max Robinson, who had been at the forefront of design and branding in this country for many years. We all know his design -- it has lived in all of our wallets and it takes the form of the Australian $10 note. So Max is no slouch when it comes to all things design. One thing stuck with me that Max taught...

This cannot go on.

To the administration,How much longer can the board show ignorance to its members? It is disgusting that the jumper issue hasn't even be acknowledged by the club. The paddlepop looked bloody awful against Carlton. There has been nothing but positive feedback from members, media and even some of the players on how good the old jumper is, yet the club remains weak and silent. It is so very frustrating watching the team I have been a member of since merger slowly become irrelevant with the worst looking jumper in the...

It hasn’t felt like my club since 2009

"I've loved the Brisbane Lions since I was a young kid playing Auskick in the late 90's. AFL was still very new up here and despite having no connection to it in my family (all QLD/NSW based with no AFL heritage), we jumped on board as the local club was running Auskick and we thought we'd give it a go.I remember watching the boys win the three premierships when I was still relatively young. My mind at the time couldn't really comprehend the idea of the Lions losing. We were...

Bring the Premiership Lion back to our guernsey

Dear Malcolm Holmes,  I originally sent an email in 2011 about how disappointed I was with the ongoing use of the paddle pop lion on the jumper.  Eighteen months later I’m a little sad to say that it’s still a relevant issue for our club.At first I thought the release of the Premiership Guernsey this year to celebrate the three peat was a brilliant idea. But it’s ended up being bitter sweet. Seeing the players wearing it brought back strong memories and hit me much harder than I ever expected, seeing...

Return The Lion

BRISBANE LIONSP.O BOX   1535COORPAROO DC  QLD  4151ATTENTION: MR MALCOLM HOLMESDear Sir,As a member and a sponsor of two players for a number of years I have been over the moon with the way the club has conducted itself and the initiatives it has brought on in the last two years.Angus, you and the entire staff have done an outstanding job in laying the foundations for our club to climb back out of the hole that we found ourselves in.Michael Voss, the football department, and the players delivered us a...

It’s time for Brisbane Lions Members to have their say!

I am writing today as it seems the multiple emails I have sent over the years, to both the Club & individual officials, have been falling on deaf ears.Four years ago the Brisbane Lions Board made the worst, most divisive, decision in our proud clubs post merger history. They, inexplicably, decided to change the playing guernsey worn by our team and, even more brazenly, did so without consulting their own constituents, the clubs members.Looking back to that time, even before the official decision was made, the club was sent petitions,...

It Belongs To Us

To the Brisbane Lions Board,I am a Queenslander and for the most part a Brisbane boy. My interest in AFL was piqued when the Bears played finals in 1996 and more so in 2000 when I struck up a close relationship with my brother in-law. He is a fanatical Bombers member whose son played with Jason Akermanis at Mayne. Their life was consumed by football. For me, Brisbane would be the only team for which I could barrack as the only team connected with Qld. They are my local club. Watching...

Get rid of the paddlepop lion Guernsey please..

"This was originally sent on 26th September 2011, while there were rumours Kooga would change the guersey.---Hi,I'm a silver member and I just wanted to put my two cents in about the guernsey.I've heard that there will be changes to the 2012 guernsey. But that the paddlepop lion will still be on the front.Firstly, I'd like to point out that I've been really impressed with the clubs administration this year. The re-engagement with the Fitzroy fan base and the greatly improve consultation and involvement of the members has been noticed...

Members should be more than just money

Hi,I'm writing about the guernsey issue. I think most people had assumed that the club had realised the errors of its ways and would be making a change as soon as possible, so to hear that this is still an issue that those in charge couldn't care less about really saddens me.There are very few more emotive issues out there for those attached to the club, and it really can't be ignored anymore. It's disgraceful that it ever was. It's time this nonsense was ceased. Clubs change logos, but not guernseys....

My view has not changed.

The below was sent to the club on 24 September 2010. My view has not changed.---12 months ago I completed a similar survey to this which expressed satisfaction in almost every aspect of the club and it's direction.A few weeks later, rumours started circling regarding a logo and jumper design change, which gained such momentum that I found myself signing on-line petitions and e-mailing the club directly attempting to have members formally heard before the administration took such a radical step of altering the only jumper design the club has...
